RACING CAR DRIVER WATCH TYPE 2 NÜRBURGRING
€69.00
Racing driver watches paying homage to some of the historical racing circuits that initiated the world of automotive competition. This racing pilot watch is named in tribute to the legendary Nürburgring Circuit, located in the Eifel Mountains, Rhineland-Palatinate region, and inaugurated in 1927.
Perhaps alongside Monza, Indianapolis, and La Sarthe-Le Mans, we are talking about the most legendary circuit in the world. Currently divided into two parts, the southern track (Südschleife, 4.5 km) is currently used for Formula 1 (last time in 2011) or the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The northern track (Nordschleife, 20.8 km) is called the Grüne Hölle (Green Hell), named so by Jackie Stewart after a race, and currently serves as a circuit where all car brands test their new sports cars, making lap time on the Nordschleife an important advertising element.
Winners of the Eifelrennen at Nürburgring have been awarded the title of "Ringmeister," with Rudolf Caracciola being the first. Legends like Bernd Rosenmeyer, Manfred von Brauchitsch, Hermann Lang, or Tazio Nuvolari followed, always driving Mercedes-Benz or Auto Union cars. After the war, new Ringmeisters included drivers like Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Wolfgang von Trips, John Surtees, Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, or Jacky Ickx. In the last Formula 1 race held at the Nordschleife in 1976, the famous accident of Niki Lauda aboard a Ferrari occurred.
The dial of the watch and the thread of the strap are "Giallo Modena" yellow in homage to Porsche, a brand that held the lap record at 6'11" since 1983... until in 2019, another Porsche broke it with 5'19" (yes, almost an incredible minute faster) in 2018. This shade of yellow, called so in competition, is the background color of the Modena shield and also of Stuttgart, also present in the Porsche shield.
